On Wednesday 4/17, after hearing opposition from representatives of the Knoxville community, the City of Knoxville Design Review Board decided to postpone a decision on the proposed development.

This is a victory. We do not yet know when the proposal will be reviewed again, and in the meantime we will continue to organize efforts to champion development that helps our city grow while maintaining its authentic character, architecture, and spirit.

Why 16-story apartment building planned for downtown Knoxville has to rethink its design

PRESERVE OUR COMMUNITY AND DEVELOP RESPONSIBLY.

In the vibrant heart of Knoxville, our community stands at a crossroads.

The proposed 16-story development project by Origin Development Partners (announced in April 2024) threatens to overshadow the unique charm and character that make our city a cherished place to live, work, and visit. A building of this scale and design would erode Knoxville’s authentic design and gives nothing back to our community.

Our goal is to champion the preservation of our city’s identity and advocate for responsible growth.

This project has the potential to permanently alter our cityscape, create unavoidable traffic jams, and irresponsibly use our tax dollars.
